A temporary resident is a person who is legally authorized to enter Canada for temporary purposes. A foreign national has temporary resident status when they have been found to meet the requirements of to enter and/or remain in Canada as a visitor, student, worker, or temporary resident permit holder. This is opposite to permanent residency, which permits a foreign national to stay in Canada for an indefinite period of time.
Temporary Residence Classes include international students, workers, businessmen and tourists.
Foreign students are persons who may obtain temporary resident status. A study permit is a written authorization issued to foreign nationals authorizing them to engage in studies in Canada.
A Canadian work permit allows you to work under a specific employer (employer-specific work permit) or with any employer (open work permit) in Canada. As a foreign national, you’ll require a work permit before working in Canada, with a few exceptions.
Depending on your country of citizenship, a Temporary Resident Visa, or an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA), is required for temporary residents seeking to come to Canada temporarily.
